CANOA
CANOA (Caribbean and New Orleanian Arts) is an artist-led initiative and project space located in the Upper 9th Ward of New Orleans. CANOA is also a resource center, a gathering place, a workshop space, and a lecture and performance venue.
CANOA supports arts practitioners from the local Caribbean diaspora and facilitates exchanges among New Orleanian and Caribbean artists and community members to foster new cultural and artistic connections between New Orleans and the wider Caribbean, both locally and internationally. Born from the recognition that New Orleans is in fact a Caribbean city, CANOA brings New Orleanian and Caribbean artists and culture workers together in solidarity around our mutual histories and cultural practices.
Upcoming Shows
You are cordially invited to join us for an inspiring evening as we officially launch the 4th Annual Feel the Rhythm of the Drums International Festival with our inaugural signature event, Every Rhythm Tells a Story: Artists Talk.
This special gathering will bring together 10 distinguished Culture Bearers from 10 countries who have dedicated their lives to preserving, sustaining, and advancing the cultural traditions of the African Diaspora. Through storytelling, conversation, and cultural exchange, these internationally acclaimed artists will share their personal journeys, artistic experiences, and the rhythms that connect cultures across the world.
Whether you are an artist, educator, student, community leader, or lover of culture, this free event offers a unique opportunity to meet the artists, hear their stories, ask questions, and celebrate the traditions that continue to shape New Orleans and communities around the globe.
