The first annual New Orleans Oyster Festival will go on despite the BP oil disaster severely hampering the oyster industry. The festival features oyster shucking and eating contests, cooking demos, and plenty of live music. It will educate the country about the benefits of the Louisiana Gulf Oyster, as well as honor and celebrate the restaurateurs and oyster farmers who have solidified New Orleans' position as the Oyster Capital of America.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Save Our Coast Foundation. More info is available on the festival's web site.
The festival will be held in the Berger Parking Lot in the French Quarter.
