On October 10, 2010, singer and composer Solomon Burke — also known as the King of Rock 'N Soul — passed away at the age of 70. His biggest hits, "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" and "Cry to Me," have been featured in movies, and his music has been covered by everyone from Otis Redding to the Rolling Stones. Spanning gospel, soul, and blues, Burke's songs and style have won him several film and TV appearances and a Grammy Award, as well as numerous other honors.
Mr. Burke died at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, where he was on his way to perform with Dutch pop/soul band De Dijk. Burke's final recording, Hold On Tight (2010), features 13 tracks written by De Dijk and translated to English.
